I see those with MAC's that are running Windows with the MAC's and Sonar. As that apparently works OK, I don't see a (cost effective) reason for them to develop a specific MAC version. And I agree that I can buy or build an equivalent Windows hardware machine for a quarter to a third of the price of an equivalent MAC.
Cakewalk is a freeware surround mixer software app filed under audio and video editors and made available by BandLab for Windows.

A relaunched version of SONAR which is now called lengendary Cakewalk
BandLab launched early access to Cakewalk by BandLab which is replacing SONAR, the iconic DAW developed by Cakewalk.
The new successor to the legendary DAW is now a freeware product. The revived DAW includes all core premium features of SONAR Platinum such as the award-winning Skylight user interface, flexible ProChannel modules, and powerful end-to-end 64-bit mix engine.
Cakewalk on 32-bit and 64-bit PCs
This download is licensed as freeware for the Windows (32-bit and 64-bit) operating system on a laptop or desktop PC from audio and video editors without restrictions. Cakewalk 2020.11 is available to all software users as a free download for Windows 10 PCs but also without a hitch on Windows 7 and Windows 8.
Compatibility with this surround mixer software may vary, but will generally run fine under Microsoft Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP on either a 32-bit or 64-bit setup. A separate x64 version may be available from BandLab.

Several months ago, we promised to deliver a SONAR Mac Alpha. To build it, we collaborated with a company called CodeWeavers. CodeWeavers has a technology called CrossOver that is basically a Windows-to-Mac translator, allowing native Windows applications to run on a Mac.
Together, Cakewalk and CodeWeavers used CrossOver to enable a native Windows version of SONAR Home Studio to run on a Mac. We’ve packaged this product for release as a SONAR Mac Prototype, available now as a FREE download to all who are interested.
